The Weekend Edition

After a weeks hiatus due to a break in Bruges (more on that later), I’m back. In a week that saw hacktivist group take to the streets in 670 cities globally for Million Mask March (#MMM2015), & friend of the site Mark Poynton got married (big congrats to you both chef <3 ). I’ve been reading all this on social media.

The Sunday Times/Hardens Restaurant 100 List, The Top 20
2015 2014 Restaurant City
1 6 Restaurant Sat Bains Nottingham
2 21 Midsummer House Cambridge
3 3 L’Enclume Cartmel
4 New Entry Casamia Bristol
5 11 Restaurant Martin Wishart Edinburgh
6 9 Gidleigh Park Chagford
7 2 Le Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons Great Milton
8 4 The Ledbury Notting Hill
9 New Entry The Araki Mayfair W1
10 8 Harry’s Place Great Gonerby
11 15 Restaurant Nathan Outlaw Port Isaac
12 43 Andrew Fairlie, Gleneagles Hotel Auchterarder
13 17 One-O-One, Sheraton Park Tower Knightsbridge
14 77 Story Bermondsey, SE1
15 10 Waterside Inn Bray
16 20 Kitchen Table, Bubbledogs Fitzrovia
17 26 Raby Hunt Summerhouse
18 16 Le Gavroche Mayfair
19 48 Marianne Notting Hill
20 46 L’Ortolan Shinfield

The main trend seems to be the introduction of new blood into these types of lists. It’s great to see upward moves or new entries for: Marianne; Casamia; The Araki; Midsummer House & Restaurant Sat Bains. Latterly down the full list, a new entries for Amberly Castle, Llangoed Hall, Winteringham fields and  Typing Room, just to name a few.

As with everything related to the Harden’s guide it is labelled as definitive, it isn’t. No guide can be definitive as food is subjective & will always divide opinion.

Best job advert this week

I think we’d all admit that recruiting chefs id difficult enough, so one employer has added a raft of staff perks; Mobile phone insurance, Taste card, 5% annual pay rise & overtime after 56 hours.

America discovers sausage rolls. Quick Greggs, branch out immediately.
