News has surfaced over the weekend that former Michelin star chef Robert Thompson is to open his own eatery. Located on the corner of Town lane & South street in Newport on his beloved Isle of Wight, telling one local media source:
The building is fantastic and the first time I walking into the place, I knew it was the one.
Thompson left The Hambrough in Spring 2013 after the debacle involving John Campbell (full story here). After bobbling around doing various pop-ups etc, he re-surfaced at a former Michelin starred property on the Isle of Wight in late Summer 2014. Sadly it was short lived and Thompson left in early 2015.
Now Thompson looks set to open his own eponymous restaurant in the Summer this year. Apparently he’s recruited some of his former staff, who are helping him renovate the former café into what will be, no doubt, a destination for foodies as the Hambrough once was.
Thompson has been teasing his followers on the social media with glimpses of the new project, follow him here: @RThompsonIOW
As ever, I’d like to wish Robert Thompson & his team all the best for the future with their new endeavours.
